TRANSPORTATION DESIGN 2 | FALL 2017
Brief: To design a full size sedan for the Citroen brand for the year 2035.
Tools used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Autodesk Alias, automotive clay, Prismacolor Veritin pencils, pen and paper.
For this project I chose to design the vehicle for the President of Argentina. The car's design is meant to reflect the dignity and power of the head of state's position. The sharp front end is complemented by a rounder rear. Some features of the car are its spacious seating capacity for the president and a passenger as well as the canopy. At the touch of a button the all glass canopy can be tinted so as to not show the passengers or made completely transparent for parades.
I first began with three inspiration words I chose to represent the Citroen brand: purely joyful, audaciously unique, and rigid softness. After exploring with different shapes I came upon the design theme of having a sharp front end. This theme, seen in one of the speedforms, continued on throughout the rest of the design process.
Another concept that guided me from the beginning was to have an all glass canopy. This feature would serve both as an aesthetic and functional anchor for the design. Once the general shape and feel of the vehicle was finalized I refined things such as the rear of the canopy and the graphics.
MODELING PROCESS
After the general design direction was chosen I began work on the clay model. Sculpting of the model was done simultaneously with the design of the vehicle. Changes made in sketches were reflected in the clay and vice versa. Sculpting of the model took 8 weeks.
